Vujicic: SNSD will not support changes to the election law because fundamental issues are not addressed
SARAJEVO – Miroslav Vujicic, a deputy of the SNSD in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, stated that the SNSD will not support the proposed law on amendments to the Election Law of BiH, suggested by the Club of SDA deputies, because it does not address the fundamental issues in the electoral process in BiH.

According to his words, a dilemma in the law is the use of the so-called D’Hondt system for calculating mandates, leaving a situation where one vote is worth as much as three votes during the distribution of mandates.

“Also, the ownership of mandates is not addressed in the best way. You have seen that in practice, in the majority of parties, except in the SNSD, there have been instances of leaving parties and taking mandates, leading to the delegitimization of the electoral cycle,” Vujicic told reporters in Sarajevo.

He pointed out that the proposal does not address the possibility of candidacy for state officials in the electoral process, as well as the issue of voting from abroad, primarily in local elections.

“At local elections, votes are cast on topics important for life, and people who have not lived there for 20 to 30 years have the same opportunity to vote in local elections,” concluded Vujicic.

The House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH adopted today a request for urgent discussion on the proposed law on amendments to the Election Law of BiH, suggested by the Club of SDA deputies.
