In an interview with Al Jazeera, US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar spoke about the situation in the region and the latest developments in BiH.
He said that he is currently talking to many leaders and looking at how to move this space forward constructively.
He pointed out that no one is talking about sanctions for leaders in BiH yet.
We can bring sanctions against individuals, but we are still in the dialogue phase – said Eskobar.
He pointed out that the entities do not have the constitutional authority to withdraw from the institutions unilaterally.
He stressed that it is high time for BiH citizens to start building their country and stop leaving it.
There will be no war in BiH, and I don’t know why people are talking about war, and they should be talking about economic development. When people go to the polls, I think they have clear options between those who want to continue the ethnic divisions of the 1990s and those who wish to move forward, Escobar said.
Development partnership with Serbia
He also said that Vucic has the support of the United States as long as he is on the European path.
Our relationship with Serbia is neither good nor bad, and it is complicated. “I hope that this ‘development partnership’ we have with Serbia will be able to help stability in the region,” Escobar said.
Asked whether he trusted the Montenegrin government and whether NATO should share information with the authorities in Podgorica, he said they had US support.
I hope that they will continue to reject the voices that distance them from Europe – he said.
