Croatian president opposes NATO expansion

Croatian President Zoran Milanovic has said that he opposes Finland and Sweden joining NATO because the West ignores the interests of the Croatian national minority in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). This was reported by the state news agency HINA.

According to Milanovic, he is concerned that the West is currently taking into account “other people’s unrest, fears and security concerns” while Croatian interests are being ignored. He noted that such an attitude makes it necessary to block the accession to NATO of the two Scandinavian countries.

“It was the Croatian army that made it possible to stop the war in BiH in 1995, and not NATO bombers, not British and French fighters that bombed positions Karadzic and Mladic around Sarajevo,” Milanovic stressed. – For several weeks, this continued without success, until the Croatian army, against its will, but at the explicit request of the United States, did not reach Banja Luka. And returned to their positions in five days.

“27 years have passed, but we will not be silent about it, these are facts,” the President of Croatia said.

Earlier, the Croatian leader said that he was counting on the understanding of all NATO members of the emerging serious situation with Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina, since, according to him, instability in BiH could negatively affect security in Croatia itself. As Milanovic noted, he plans to use the veto at the NATO summit in Madrid to block Finland and Sweden from joining the alliance.
