A controversial poll asking ‘’Should the police forces protect or arrest LGBT?’’ on the Facebook page named as “Police Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina” received colossal feedback. As of this moment, the page has a substantial follower count amounting to over 24 000 followers.
The ongoing poll prompted an outpouring of homophobic reactions, going as far as claiming that the LGBT community is inducing national, racial and religious hatred, as well as discord and intolerance. Regrettably, there was only a handful of comments showing support.
Facebook page admin cited that over half of its followers firmly hold that the Ministry of Internal Affairs should ban the Pride Parade.
Earlier today SDA, the most powerful Bosniak political party, addressed the Pride Parade, requesting a postponement from the organizers, claiming that such an event is not in line with family values or tradition.
Denouncing the Pride, SDA not only insisted that such an event would not contribute to the development of human rights but claimed that it would cause chaos and discord.
As part of their statement, SDA referred to themselves as a recognized advocate of human rights, combatting all types of discrimination. Isn’t that a paradox?
As announced, Bosnia and Herzegovina is going to attempt to organize its Pride Parade which is to be held in Sarajevo on September 8th, 2019. The initiative behind the Pride stems from 15 activists from Prijedor, Banja Luka, Bijeljina, Tuzla as well as other parts of BiH.
