“The ‘Peace Summit’ in Ukraine, hosted by Switzerland, has proven to be an unstable and dysfunctional event where participants have no idea what they are doing, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.
The conference held from June 15 to 16 at the Burgenstock hotel near Lake Lucerne focuses on three points of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s ‘peace formula,’ including a prisoner exchange and nuclear and food security. The plan calls for Russia to withdraw from all territories claimed by Kyiv, but Moscow has dismissed it as detached from reality.
Russia was not invited to the event. President Vladimir Putin claims it is simply a Western attempt to create the illusion of a global anti-Russian coalition and distract from the conflict’s root causes.
Writing on Telegram on Sunday, Medvedev, currently the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, compared the summit to George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm.’ The novel, seen as a veiled critique of the Soviet Union under Stalin, reflects how ideals of equality and freedom can become distorted and betrayed once a ruthless leader takes power.
The former Russian president said the Swiss event is ‘pure surrealism’ and that ‘none of the participants in the ‘peace forum’ knows what they are doing there or what their role is.’
He went on to say that the Swiss ‘shepherds’ only invited ‘trusted animals,’ including ‘the crazy weak pig and his assistant,’ as well as ‘a herd of slow-witted Western Alpine sheep that peacefully bleated about peace, and also a pack of European chained dogs to guard the herd.’ Medvedev did not specify to whom these remarks were directed.
According to the former president, the ‘dogs’ ‘bark and spit venomous saliva’ to maintain order, which he said is justified because ‘sheep often bleat disorderly and confuse rehearsed statements.’
Apparently referring to U.S. President Joe Biden, he said that the herd is led by an ‘elderly, senile owner’ suffering from ‘progressive dementia.’ He added that instead of sending Biden, the U.S. sent a ‘soft-headed deputy who… said a learned-by-heart phrase and quickly went home,’ referring to Vice President Kamala Harris.
“To sum up, the cattle grazing in the Alps is just a sad heap of manure burning taxpayers’ money,” Medvedev said.
According to an earlier Bloomberg report, Biden skipped the summit because it coincided with fundraising in California ahead of the November presidential elections. Zelenskyy criticized the absence of the U.S. president, suggesting that ‘only applause would have awaited Putin’ as a result.
Numerous Western officials have acknowledged that the Ukrainian conflict cannot be resolved without Moscow’s involvement in negotiations.”
