Only a few days separate us from the most important elections in recent world history. Although every election is often touted as “the most important,” the outcome of the presidential elections in the United States next Tuesday, provided there are no irregularities again, could indeed determine the direction the world will take in the coming decades. We will soon know whether Trump truly is the politician who defined our epoch, writes Borislav Ristić for Večernji List.
Whether you like Trump or not, he is undeniably the most significant political figure of this century. There are many indications that these elections might mark the “triumph of the Trump era.” We see him currently campaigning in states that were previously thought unreachable. On the other hand, his opponent’s ratings are in a free fall, as seen in how she was booed at rallies in states previously considered her strongholds.
Harris Struggles with Setbacks
In line with this, it seems even Trump’s most significant adversaries are slowly preparing for a scenario where he wins. Things seem to be working in Trump’s favor, while Kamala Harris continues to face one setback after another. Every new poll gives Trump an edge in the “swing states,” and even New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Virginia are now in the “gray zone.” Whether Trump will eventually take them remains to be seen, but this trend should not be ignored.
Of course, the shadow of irregularities from previous elections still looms over everything. Even if you are not among those who believe in election fraud, those elections were undoubtedly marked by anomalies that no one can fully explain. For instance, in Arizona in 2020, there was a 38% surge in voter turnout, resulting in Trump losing the state, even though 400,000 more people voted for him compared to 2016 when he won there.
The Risk of Manipulation
Any predictions must therefore consider the possibility of manipulation in the election results. For Trump, this means he will need a few extra percentage points in specific swing states to be sure of victory, or as they say, to be “too big to steal.” Polls currently place him in a position where manipulation is still a possibility, although he often outperforms the polling numbers.
