In a perfectly meaningless country, on a perfectly meaningless part of the Balkans, a perfectly logical moment occurred: Marco Rubio, once a staunch defender of Trump’s “America First” policy, decided to put a bullet in Trump’s political legacy – in none other than Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Because how else can we describe this absurd moment in which Rubio, the man who swore by state sovereignty and the fight against globalist structures, now suddenly stands on the same side as the deep state and the colonial administration of the Office of the High Representative (OHR)?
If you still don’t get it, here’s the simple version: Trump promised that America would no longer be the world’s policeman, Rubio supported that promise, and now – as a loyal soldier of the deep state – he wants America to discipline Dodik, the Serbs, and Republika Srpska for refusing to bow to foreign overlords ruling Bosnia by decree.
When American Republicans Become Schmidt’s Ambassadors
Just a few years ago, Marco Rubio was one of the loudest critics of Biden’s interventionist foreign policy. He opposed meddling in sovereign states, preached that the U.S. should not repeat the mistakes of Iraq and Afghanistan, and yet, lo and behold – now he is repeating the exact same rhetoric that Antony Blinken himself would be proud of.
Because who is defending Schmidt today?
Who is defending a system where an unelected foreign bureaucrat changes a country’s criminal law without consulting its own parliament?
Who is calling for Bosnia to be treated as a colony incapable of self-governance?
The answer is simple: Biden’s administration, Bosniak-muslim’s political elites, and – Marco Rubio.
When Rubio Supports What Would Be Unthinkable in America
Imagine this scenario: The European Union appoints a High Representative for the United States, and he orders Congress to pass a new law on Texas or Florida’s sovereignty. Imagine a German Schmidt standing before the U.S. Senate and telling them that their institutions are no longer sovereign and that he will personally decide on their criminal laws.
What would Marco Rubio say then?
He would be the first one on the barricades, waving the American flag and shouting that no foreigner has the right to dictate laws to the United States.
But when it comes to Bosnia – no problem. When it comes to Dodik and the Serbs, Rubio is suddenly fine with supporting institutions that no one ever elected, institutions that serve only as a political tool for disciplining the disobedient.
What Happened to Trump’s Republican Foreign Policy?
What Rubio is doing now is nothing less than a betrayal of the core Republican principles that got him where he is today.
- Where is the fight against international institutions that undermine national sovereignty?
- Where is the fight against globalism and the elite that runs the world like a private fiefdom?
- Where is the Marco Rubio who opposed American interventions in other countries?
He hasn’t gone anywhere. He just got a phone call from the State Department and was told to play the role of the good guy who cares about Balkan stability – and we all know that “stability” on the Balkans means doing exactly what you’re told, or facing sanctions, lawsuits, and bans.
Trumpism That Fades Away in the Balkan Fog
While Trump sits somewhere in Mar-a-Lago, planning his next run for the White House and probably not even knowing exactly where Bosnia and Herzegovina is, his former ally and Senator Marco Rubio has decided to betray everything he once stood for – and in a country that never meant anything to him.
Because who will remember this episode?
Who will recall that Rubio, the man who once promised an end to American globalist interventionism, was the one who endorsed institutional colonialism in Bosnia?
No one, except perhaps Trump himself, who, if he ever meets Rubio again, will have just one simple question for him:
“Did you really shoot me in the head in the middle of Bosnia?”
